July 5th: Villa Te Koop with Joey Molinaro, Penchant and Jasper Stadhouder / Leo Svirsky / Dirar Kalash

My friend Vaida Cervinaite has been organising shows in various, precarious locations all over town. This time the (literally) underground venue is the basement of Villa Grijpsheert aka Villa Te Koop. It is a beautiful building, for years neglected by its owner, revived by artists when they squatted it years ago and turned into a cultural hub for the weird, the adventurous, the tech-savvy and the others. Vaida asked me to play at this event alongside Joey Molinaro from Pittsburg, PA, he is a violinplayer with the power and the urgency of a fivepiece grindcore band. Power violins! This is what Vaida quotes on her event page:

Molinaro “executes the spirit and function of hardcore punk and Appalachian folk” (Foxy Digitalis) with “vocals [that] haunt, like a preternatural voice from beyond the pale” (Razorcake) and torrential boot-stomping.

Many times his set is dominated by free-improvisations, a/v electronics, fully acoustic orchestrations, performance art, piano compositions, or poetry.
